# Watch Integration

> Send drills from MyKit.info to a paired Garmin watch and receive shot-detected results automatically.

## What it does

The watch integration connects MyKit.info to a paired Garmin Tactix Delta so you can run timed drills hands-free. The flow is:

1. **Send a drill** from the Range Day tab to one or more paired watches.
2. The drill appears on the watch within seconds.
3. **Run the drill** — the watch detects shots via its accelerometer and records split times.
4. **Results are submitted** automatically when the drill ends and the watch syncs.

Results land in the Range Day Performance tab tagged with the watch device label and per-shot split times.

## Requirements

* A **Garmin Tactix Delta** with the MyKit Connect IQ app installed.
* The **Garmin Connect** mobile app open on your phone (required for drill sync — the watch polls every \~5 seconds when Connect is in the foreground).
* At least one firearm in your Armory.

## Sync timing

Drills queue as soon as you tap **Send**. The watch picks them up at the next poll cycle — typically within 5 seconds while Garmin Connect is open, up to a few minutes if the phone is backgrounded. Queued drills expire after 4 hours if not claimed.

## Pairing

### How pairing works

Pairing links a specific Garmin device to your user account. Each device gets its own API key that the watch uses to authenticate. You can pair multiple watches — useful for a team or for testing with a backup device.

### Pair a new watch

1. Open **Profile** (top-right avatar or `/dashboard/profile`).
2. Scroll to the **Watch Devices** section and click **Pair New Watch**.
3. Enter a friendly label (e.g. "Tactix Delta — Training") and click **Generate Code**.
4. A **6-digit pairing code** appears. It is valid for **5 minutes**.
5. On the watch, open the MyKit app → navigate to **Pair** → enter the 6-digit code.
6. The watch confirms pairing and the device appears in your Watch Devices list with a last-seen timestamp.

  The pairing code is shown once and never stored. If it expires, generate a new one — the process is the same.

### Manage paired devices

From the Watch Devices section you can:

* **Rename** a device by clicking its label.
* **Revoke** a device to immediately invalidate its API key. The watch will not be able to sync until re-paired.

Revoked devices are removed from the list. All queued drills for a revoked device are automatically expired.

### Pairing troubleshooting

| Symptom                                       | Fix                                                                            |
| --------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| "Invalid code" on the watch                   | The 6-digit code expired — generate a new one.                                 |
| Device paired but shows no last-seen date     | Open Garmin Connect on your phone and wait for the first sync.                 |
| Watch does not appear after entering the code | Verify the watch has an active internet connection via the Garmin Connect app. |

## Sending Drills

### Send a drill

1. Go to **Range Day → Drills** tab.
2. Find the drill you want to run and click **Watch** in its action row.
3. A modal opens showing each paired watch. Select the **firearm** you'll use with each watch.
4. Click **Send to Watch** (or **Send to N Watches** if you have multiple).

The drill is queued immediately. Each watch picks it up at the next sync cycle — within \~5 seconds while Garmin Connect is open.

  If you have no paired watches, the **Watch** button is replaced with a **+ Watch** link that takes you to pairing.

### Firearm selection

You must select a firearm for each watch before sending. The firearm determines which calibration profile the watch uses for shot detection. If the selected firearm has no calibration data, the watch falls back to defaults (2.5 g threshold, 150 ms debounce) and a warning appears in the modal.

### On Watch badge

After sending, an **On Watch** badge appears on the drill card. It stays visible while at least one queue entry for that drill is in `pending` or `claimed` status. The badge updates in real time via a live subscription — no page refresh needed.

The badge clears when:

* The watch claims and completes the drill.
* The queue entry expires (4-hour TTL).
* You navigate away and come back after completion.

### Multi-watch dispatch

Sending to multiple watches creates one queue entry per watch, all sharing the same **dispatch ID**. In the Performance tab, results that came from the same dispatch are grouped under a **Watch Dispatch · N devices** header so you can compare runs across devices side by side.

### Results

When the drill finishes on the watch, results are submitted automatically and appear in the **Performance** tab:

* Tagged with an amber **Watch · \<device label>** badge.
* Time and score populated from the watch.
* Per-shot split times expandable via the **▼ splits** toggle.

## Calibration

### Why calibration matters

The watch detects shots using its accelerometer. Every firearm has a different recoil signature — a .22 LR has far less impulse than a .308. Without calibration, the watch may under-count shots (threshold too high) or trigger on movement that isn't a shot (threshold too low or debounce too short).

Two parameters control detection:

| Parameter         | What it does                                                                        | Default |
| ----------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------- |
| **Threshold (g)** | Minimum acceleration spike to count as a shot. Lower = more sensitive.              | 2.5 g   |
| **Debounce (ms)** | Minimum time between counted shots. Prevents double-counting from recoil resonance. | 150 ms  |

### Open calibration settings

1. Go to **Armory** and click on any firearm to open its detail page.
2. Scroll to the **Watch Calibration** section.

This section is only shown when you have at least one paired watch.

### Manual calibration

Use manual mode when you already know good values from prior experience.

1. Select **Manual** in the calibration section.
2. Enter a **Threshold** value (g above baseline).
3. Enter a **Debounce** value (ms).
4. Click **Save**.

### Watch-assisted calibration

Use watch-assisted mode to derive the debounce value automatically from a real firing session.

1. Select **Watch** in the calibration section.
2. Choose a watch from the dropdown and click **Queue Calibration Drill**.
3. Run the drill on the watch — fire all rounds.
4. Return to the calibration section and click **Derive from Last Session**.
5. The debounce field auto-fills based on 80% of the minimum inter-shot interval observed.
6. Adjust the **Threshold** manually if shots are being missed or double-counted.
7. Click **Save**.

  Threshold cannot be derived from timestamps alone — it depends on the accelerometer signal amplitude, which only the watch records. Start with 2.5 g and adjust up if you see phantom shots, or down if shots are being missed.

### Calibration and the Send modal

The [Send to Watch](#sending-drills) modal shows a warning if you select a firearm with no calibration data. This is not a blocker — the watch will use defaults — but accuracy will be lower than a calibrated firearm.

### Recommended workflow

1. Fire 10–15 rounds at a normal pace with a new firearm.
2. Use **Derive from Last Session** to set debounce.
3. Check the split times in the Performance tab — they should match your actual cadence.
4. If shots are missing, lower the threshold by 0.5 g and repeat.
5. If you see extra phantom shots, raise the threshold by 0.5 g.

## Watch App

### Installation

1. Open the **Garmin Connect IQ Store** on your phone or at [apps.garmin.com](https://apps.garmin.com).
2. Search for **MyKit**.
3. Tap **Install** and confirm the target device is your Tactix Delta.
4. The app appears under **Apps** on the watch after the next sync.

### Pairing on first launch

The first time you open the app on the watch, it shows the **Pairing** screen.

1. Enter the 6-digit code from your MyKit.info profile (see [Pairing](#pairing)).
2. The watch exchanges the code for an API key and confirms pairing.
3. The main screen appears — the app is ready to receive drills.

### Running a drill

1. **Send a drill** from MyKit.info (see [Sending Drills](#sending-drills)).
2. The watch polls for new drills every \~5 seconds. The drill name and par time appear on screen.
3. Press the **Start** button to begin.
4. The timer runs. The accelerometer listens for shots based on your calibration profile.
5. Each detected shot increments the shot counter and records a timestamp.
6. The drill ends when the round count is reached or you press **Stop**.
7. A summary screen shows elapsed time and shot count.
8. Results are submitted to MyKit.info on the next sync.

### Permissions

The app requires:

* **Sensors** — reads the accelerometer for shot detection.
* **Network** — polls for drills and submits results via the Garmin Connect companion app.
* **Background** — keeps polling while the app is open.

### Supported devices

Currently supported: **Garmin Tactix Delta** (all variants).

Other Garmin devices with an accelerometer and Connect IQ 3+ may work but are untested.

### App troubleshooting

| Symptom                                    | Fix                                                                                           |
| ------------------------------------------ | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Drill does not appear after sending        | Ensure Garmin Connect is open on your phone and the watch has a BLE connection.               |
| Shot count is wrong                        | Calibrate the firearm — see [Calibration](#calibration).                                      |
| App shows "Not paired" after a phone reset | Re-pair from your MyKit.info profile — the old API key is still valid unless revoked.         |
| Results do not appear in Performance tab   | Check that Garmin Connect synced after the drill completed (look for the spinner in Connect). |
