The Gear Cage is where you track every piece of tactical equipment you own — plate carriers, plates, optics, lights, holsters, magazines, clothing, and anything else in your kit. Each item has a rich set of fields for capturing purchase details, service status, and battery information, and items marked as containers can hold other gear when you build loadouts.

Add a gear item

Navigate to Dashboard → Gear and select Add item.
1

Enter name and brand

Give the item a descriptive Name (required) and optionally enter the Brand. Both appear in your gear list and loadout builder.
2

Set category and size

Choose a Category that best describes the item: Plate Carrier, Optic, Light, Holster, Magazine, Clothing, or Other. If the item has a size, enter it in Size / Fit (e.g., M/L, XL).
3

Record acquisition details

Enter the Purchase price to include this item in your total Kit Value stat. Add the Acquired date to track when the item entered your kit. Paste a Product URL to keep a reference back to the source listing.
4

Enter weight

Enter Weight (oz) so the loadout builder can calculate total loadout weight when you assign this item to a loadout.
5

Configure battery tracking (if applicable)

Toggle Has battery if the item is battery-powered. Once enabled, you can specify:
  • Battery type — e.g., CR123A, 18650
  • Last battery changed — the date you last swapped the battery
  • Battery interval (days) — how often the battery should be replaced
My Kit uses the interval and last-changed date to calculate when the next change is due and generate alerts on your dashboard.
6

Mark as container (if applicable)

Toggle Is container if this item can physically hold other gear — for example, a plate carrier with MOLLE pouches or a range bag. Container items become nesting targets in the loadout builder.
7

Set service status

In service is on by default. If the item is currently out of rotation, toggle it off and enter an Out-of-service reason. Out-of-service items appear as Critical action items on your dashboard.
8

Add notes, photo, and documents

Write any free-form Notes about the item. Upload a Photo to identify it visually in your gear list. Attach Documents such as manuals or purchase receipts for reference.
9

Save

Select Save. The item appears in your Gear Cage and is immediately available to add to loadouts.

Service status

Each gear item has an In service toggle. When an item is taken out of service — for repair, replacement, or retirement — turn the toggle off and record the reason. The dashboard surfaces out-of-service gear as a Critical action item so nothing slips through unnoticed. You can flip the toggle back on at any time to return the item to active status.

Battery tracking

For battery-powered items (lights, optics, electronic ear-pro, etc.), My Kit tracks the replacement schedule the same way it handles firearm accessories. Set the Battery interval (days) field to how often you replace that battery. My Kit counts forward from Last battery changed and generates alerts as the due date approaches:
  • Warning — displayed when the due date is 14 days away or fewer
  • Critical — displayed when the due date has passed
The dashboard action item for an overdue battery includes a Resolve button. Selecting it records today’s date as the new Last battery changed value and clears the alert.
Battery alerts use the same 14-day warning window as firearm accessories. If you manage both, all battery action items appear in the same dashboard section so you can resolve them together.

Container items and loadout nesting

The Is container flag tells My Kit that a gear item can hold other items inside it. When you build a loadout, any item marked as a container becomes available as a nesting target — you can place other gear or firearms inside it to represent your actual physical setup.
Mark plate carriers, chest rigs, range bags, and large pouches as containers. In the loadout builder you can then nest an IFAK, radio, tourniquet holder, or other accessories directly inside the carrier rather than listing everything at the top level. This gives you an accurate picture of how your kit is actually organized.

Photos and documents

Each gear item supports one Photo upload and unlimited Document attachments. Use photos to make your gear list easier to scan at a glance. Use document attachments to keep manuals, warranty cards, and purchase receipts co-located with the item they belong to.

Kit value

Entering a Purchase price on any gear item includes that item’s value in the Kit Value stat card on your dashboard. Kit Value aggregates the purchase prices of all gear items and firearms, giving you an up-to-date total for insurance, planning, or tracking purposes.

Edit or delete a gear item

Open any item from the Gear Cage list and select Edit to update its fields. To remove an item permanently, select Delete. Deleting a gear item also removes it from any loadouts it was part of.
